New Materials For Dental Veneers: Which Options Are Best?

When it comes to getting dental veneers, every patient wants the best possible outcome. In most cases, Dr. Farshad Moftakhar of Pacific Dental Care-Beverly Hills says the biggest factor that determines the aesthetic and functional quality of a new set of dental veneers is what material they are made from.
Speaking from his office in Beverly Hills, the dental veneers expert goes on to explain that porcelain, resin, and a product known as Lumineer are the three most popular options available on the market right now. Although each of these options has its own pros and cons, Dr. Moftakhar says there’s one material that stands out from the pack.
Dr. Moftakhar recommends that patients at his practice in Beverly Hills get dental veneers made from porcelain whenever possible. Porcelain veneers are preferred by most leading dentists throughout the country because of their quality, durability, and aesthetic beauty. Unlike some other materials that Beverly Hills dental veneers can be made from, porcelain does not grab any stains, and Dr. Moftakhar says porcelain tends to have a special shine to it that cannot be recreated in any other way.
When patients get composite veneers, like bonding, they run the risk of their shiny smiles wearing off over time. This happens because composite veneers are made from plastic, and they have the tendency to dull with age. Composite also tends to grab stains more than porcelain, and there is always the chance that some leakage may be involved. If this is the case, then a patient with composite veneers would need to have his veneers taken off and replaced with a new set. This process can be both time consuming and costly, and it is something that most people try to avoid.
Dental veneers made from porcelain are generally going to last for much longer than those made from composite or resin, as well. Assuming a patient has no gum recession, then Dr. Moftakhar says a new set of porcelain veneers should last for five to seven years. After that point, patients generally need to return to Dr. Moftakhar’s office in Beverly Hills for new dental veneers.
Patients who brush their teeth extremely hard or suffer from undiagnosed nighttime clenching and grinding may find that their dental veneers do not last as long as they expected. If that happens, a dentist will need to remove the veneers, take a new impression, and secure a new set in place. For more information on what the process entails, Dr. Moftakhar recommends contacting his office.
