How to Determine If Invisalign Will Work For You

Within the past decade, adults across the country have celebrated the results that Invisalign has been able to deliver. With this oral appliance, your dentist or orthodontist can straighten your teeth with clear aligners that are essentially invisible to the friends and colleagues you come in contact with.

When meeting with teen and adult patients at Smile Designers who have expressed interest in straightening their teeth, Reza Rafie DMD explains that he first requires a complete oral exam. While many people who visit his San Diego, CA office will benefit from Invisalign treatment, Dr. Rafie wants to be certain that it will deliver the results each patient hopes for in a timely manner. In particular, he says, it is crucial to evaluate the patient’s bite and the way that the teeth come together. While Invisalign can correct a misaligned bite to a certain extent, it may not be enough of an improvement for some. Additionally, a lot of determining if Invisalign is the right choice for a particular patient comes from his personal experience with other patients who have also benefited.

If an evaluation determines that your bite is far too misaligned or the jaw relationship in your mouth is too far off balance, then Dr. Rafie says that it is best to review the other alternatives available for aligning your teeth. While traditional braces offer the best results in these circumstances, many adults cringe at the thought of metal wires and visible bands. Dentists understand these apprehensions and have therefore designed a clear alternative to traditional braces. Though they work the same way, he says, the clear braces are a great cosmetic alternative.

In other instances, or if a patient is really against the idea of wearing anything other than Invisalign, Dr. Rafie says that he can develop a treatment plan that will use both forms in conjunction within one another. First, the Invisalign will be used until the treatment is almost completed. Then, he explains, the clear braces will be placed on the teeth for a final tweak to correct the bite.

In order to determine if you’re a candidate for Invisalign or if you can benefit more from the results of clear braces, contact your trusted dentist. Either way, it’s important to remember that your perfect smile is only a few office visits away.
