Does Invisalign Work For Patients With Wisdom Teeth?

Teenage patients need not wait until their 12-year molars are fully erupted before starting orthodontic treatment with Invisalign®, thanks to a new product known as Invisalign Teen®. As San Antonio Invisalign expert Dr. Carolyn Flanary of Your Ortho Team P.C. explains, Invisalign Teen® allows patients, whose 12-year molars have not completely erupted, to enjoy the benefits of the innovative Invisalign® product.

Although many orthodontists would prefer to wait until their patients’ 12-year molars have erupted before starting orthodontic treatment, Dr. Flanary says she would not discourage anyone who was set on opting for clear aligners from starting Invisalign Teen®.

Invisalign® has come a long way since it was introduced just a decade ago. The Invisalign Teen® product takes these advancements even further. The San Antonio Invisalign expert says another reason Invisalign Teen® is considered an excellent option for her teenage patients is Compliance Indicators. Each upper aligner has a blue dot in the molar area that “washes out” to clear as it is worn. Parents will know that their teen is wearing the appliance and can track their progress.

Another feature of Invisalign Teen® has to do with the replacement of lost aligners. Dr. Flanary says that patients who opt for Invisalign Teen® can get up to six aligners replaced at no additional cost. This has spurred many parents who otherwise may not have allowed their children to go with this option—usually out of a fear that their teen would lose the aligners—more of a reason to give Invisalign Teen® a try.

Still, the decision of what type of orthodontic treatment to opt for—whether it is Invisalign®, Invisalign Teen®, Damon® Braces or something else entirely—is still left up to parents and their children. A San Antonio Invisalign expert like Dr. Flanary can give her patients information they need about the options available and can offer her recommendation for which treatment would have the best outcome given the patient’s individual situation. Dr. Flanary does not make those types of decisions for her patients.
